Customers have reported wide extremes of weather conditions affecting their gardens this year. Areas receiving double to triple their “normal” rainfall and others places with little or no rainfall, as here on the West Coast. Others have reported summer temperatures running a bit warmer than normal, with some gardens much cooler than in past years. What has come across though as a common denominator in their emails though, has been the overwhelming success and performance of the OT's or Orienpet class of lilies. From customer reports, we have been told how they “flourished” be it too dry, too soggy, too much heat or merely overcast, cloudy days.
For the month of September, our web special is a collection of 6 of our most popular Orienpets for those gardeners that have found this past spring and summer challenging. Though not fool proof, the Orienpets are as close as lilies can be, with sturdy stems that defy wind to thicker petals that last longer in warm weather. As one customer reported, following two years of struggling with purebred Orientals, due to wetter than normal summers, her stems of Orienpets were causing traffic to stop and people asking if they could tour her garden. She decided that though she loved the spicy fragrance of Orientals with a passion, they were all going to be replaced by the equally fragrant OT's, which had become the real show stoppers in her garden. Orienpets have a lighter, richer scent, without any “spice” overtone.
